Theft

This Property Maintenance Code is really just plain theft of your property rights–your right to do as you please with what you own.

Examples:

  • Coral Gables, FL, makes its residents get a permit to paint the interior of their homes.  The code enforcement officers patrol the streets looking for painting contractor trucks parked at people’s homes.  Then they check the records to see if that address secured a permit.
  • Several cities do not permit people to work from home and some dictate that home office space must conform to code.
  • One family had their $350,000 home by a NY State Lake bulldozed because the municipality said that it did not conform to code.
  • Some codes evaluate new construction so that it is neither “monotonous” nor too out of the ordinary.
  • The code is purposefully vague so that enforcement officers have the greatest latitude in citing people, from which there is very little appeal.

Do you want to live in fear?

Do you want to beg the Masters every time you want to do something with your private property that they don’t approve of?

Who are they to play God with our private property?
